NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Mayor Zohran Mamdani is overlooking a key part of the city’s housing crisis: well-meaning property owners, said Kenny Burgos, CEO of the New York Apartment Association.

Burgos, who represents affordable housing landlords and managers, spoke with PIX on Politics Daily with Dan Mannarino to discuss the rental market.

Regarding the mayor’s recent rental ripoff hearings, Burgos called them nothing more than a performance.

"We see them as more of a theatrical, sort of show," Burgos said. "It’s really a distraction from how we can fix this. We want to fix housing for tenants, and they should have their voices heard."

He added that the hearings are an effort to single out private landlords without addressing the core issues.

"All of it speaks to just the incredible difficulty and the cost to operate this housing. It’s the problem that plagues both NYCHA, rent-regulated housing, and market-rate housing," Burgos explained.
